merge

merge ends the part, if one is open, and enters the Merge phase, where nodes of different parts are merged and the mesh is written.

Syntax

merge

The command takes no argument.

What it does

merge closes and meshes an open part as endpart does, then puts the session in the Merge phase. The commands that merge nodes, review the whole model and write it belong there. A block or cylinder in the Merge phase starts a new part, and the session goes back to the Part phase.

When James applies it

When it is read. merge is legal in the Control and Part phases.

Rules James adds

  • Merge does not return to Control. The only move out of the Merge phase is a new part.
  • merge in the Merge phase is an error, not a silent no-op, so a script that repeats it shows the mistake.

Diagnostics

  • E0410: the session is already in the Merge phase.

Example

The script tests/golden/007-merge-gap-inside/input.tg, which make test runs:

c Two unit cubes standing 0.001 apart, under a tolerance one part in a
c thousand above the gap: the four pairs merge, and each survivor keeps its
c own position, x = 1.
block 1 2;1 2;1 2;0 1;0 1;0 1;
endpart
block 1 2;1 2;1 2;1.001 2.001;0 1;0 1;
endpart
merge
t .001001
neutral
write

The two endpart commands mesh the two cubes. merge enters the Merge phase, t sets a tolerance and write writes the mesh.
