verbatim

verbatim opens a block of raw text that James discards, up to endverbatim.

Syntax

verbatim [text]
raw line
...
endverbatim

The lines between verbatim and endverbatim are raw text. James reads none of it, and no character in it starts a comment or a block. The endverbatim word closes the block.

What it does

The block has no effect on the mesh or on either file James writes. A script written for a different program may use verbatim to put keyword lines into that program’s file. James accepts the block so that such scripts still run.

When James applies it

When it is read, and then the whole block is discarded. verbatim is legal in the Control, Part and Merge phases.

Rules James adds

  • A $ inside the block does not start a comment. After endverbatim, a $ starts one as usual.
  • A block that never reaches endverbatim is an error (E1102). James reports it at the verbatim word.

Diagnostics

  • E1102: the block is not closed with endverbatim.

Example

The script tests/corpus/128-verbatim-keeps-dollar/input.tg, which make test runs:

merge
verbatim ignored words
*KEYWORD $ c # {
endverbatim $ real comment

The third line holds $, c, # and {, each of which would mean something in a script. Inside the block they are only text. The $ after endverbatim starts a real comment. James runs the script without a message.
